What is 75% as a decimal?

  1. 1

    Understand percent means per hundred

    • Percent means 'out of 100'
    • So 75% means 75 out of 10075% = 75/100
  2. 2

    Convert to decimal

    • Divide by 100 to convert to a decimal75 ÷ 100 = 0.75

Lily enters 0.75 into her spreadsheet.

The key insight: To change % to decimal, just divide by 100 - move the decimal 2 places left!

Common mix-up: 75% = 7.5. Moving the decimal only 1 place gives 7.5. Percent means per HUNDRED, so move 2 places.
