A non-refundable £20 fee is required when registering. Payment is made online via the SEAG website. Families receiving Free School Meals Entitlement (FSME) are exempt from the fee but must upload valid evidence from the Education Authority.
Children born between 2 July 2015 and 1 July 2016 who will be transferring from primary to Year 8 post-primary education in September 2027 are eligible for the November 2026 test.
The main period closed on 18 September 2026 and the £50 late window closed on 24 September. SEAG then announced a one-off emergency window for 19 and 20 October 2026, and says it will not offer any further extensions. For the November 2027 test, register in the main window, which opened in May this year.
Your child sits both papers at the Assessment Centre you chose when registering. It has no bearing on which schools you can apply to later. Each centre contacts parents directly with practical details such as drop-off and collection.
If your child has a diagnosed learning difficulty or disability, access arrangements may be available. These must be applied for during registration. Evidence such as an educational psychology report may be required.
