If your child is in P6, you'll register them with SEAG in the spring or summer of 2027. SEAG hasn't announced the dates yet, so this page sets out what happened in 2026 and what to have ready.
Checked against SEAG and Department of Education guidance on 15 October 2026.
Expected around mid-May 2027
Not yet confirmed. In the 2026 cycle registration opened at 8am on Monday 18 May 2026 (SEAG). The Department of Education says registration generally opens in the May of a child’s P6 year.
Expected around mid-September 2027
Not yet confirmed. In the 2026 cycle registration closed at 11:59pm on Friday 18 September 2026 (SEAG), with a short late window afterwards that SEAG says is not guaranteed.
In 2026 SEAG also ran a late window from 21 to 24 September with a £50 fee, then a one-off emergency window on 19 and 20 October. SEAG says late windows are never guaranteed, so treat the main closing date as the deadline. We'll update this page when SEAG publishes the 2027 dates; you can also follow the full 2027-28 timeline.
This is what SEAG asked for in 2026.
The name and date of birth you type must match the ID document exactly. SEAG's example: if the birth certificate says "Daniel", type "Daniel", not "Danny".
You first create your own parent account on seagni.co.uk, then make a Pupil Application. In 2026 that had ten steps, and you could save it and come back later. If you have twins or two children in the same year, one account covers both.
You choose the Assessment Centre from a list of SEAG schools that still have places. Your child sits both papers there, and it has no link to the schools you apply to later. Twelve centres offered the Irish-medium version in 2026. Check the town carefully: SEAG says some parents have picked a centre miles away by mistake.
If your child may need access arrangements, answer "yes" to the relevant question during the application, or you won't be able to request them. You then upload evidence and submit that section before registration closes. Once submitted, it can't be changed, so gather reports early.
After you pay or upload FSM evidence, your child's centre place is secured and the application shows "pending". SEAG only gets in touch if there's a problem; otherwise it changes to "verified".
Each year over 1,000 parents register on the first day to get their preferred centre, yet SEAG says every centre still had places two weeks later. In 2025 around 10% of parents left it until the last week, some forgot altogether, and around 10% of forms had errors.
So there's no rush on day one. Pick a quiet evening in the first few weeks, have the documents beside you, and use the review page before you pay.
SEAG hasn't announced it yet. In 2026 registration opened at 8am on Monday 18 May and closed at 11:59pm on Friday 18 September, and the Department of Education says it generally opens in the May of a child's P6 year. Expect a similar window in 2027.
In 2026 it was a non-refundable £20 administration fee, the same as 2025. Children with Free School Meals Entitlement were exempt, with evidence from the Education Authority. SEAG will confirm the 2027 fee when registration opens.
SEAG says not. In recent years there were still places at every Assessment Centre over two weeks after registration opened, and at nearly every centre two months later. Filling in the form accurately matters more: in 2025 around 10% of applications had errors.
No. In 2026 SEAG asked parents to set up a new account each year, though you can use the same email address and details.
Don't plan on a late window. In 2026 SEAG ran a four-day late window with a £50 fee and then a one-off emergency window, but it says late windows are never guaranteed. A child who isn't registered can't sit the assessment.
The free gap check shows where your P6 child is in maths and English now, so the months before the test go on the right topics.
